Frequently Asked Questions

Take this short survey to see if Coaching is right for you

What is life coaching?

Life Coaching is an open and honest conversation, between a qualified life coach and a client, focusing on the future and bringing about desired change.

How does life coaching differ from counselling?

Sometimes, if you have experienced complex life issues or trauma this can have a grip on your ability to move forwards. If this is the case, it may be more beneficial for you to invest in yourself to have some counselling sessions. I describe counselling as ‘going back with both feet’. With life coaching we may look back at past issues but only by ‘standing on tip-toe and looking back’, understanding the effect on the future which certain life situations have had. Life coaching is focused on the future and deals with optimising the opportunities in your life, enabling you to achieve greater happiness.

How does life coaching work?

Life Coaching works because it focuses on exactly what you want to achieve and gets you there faster.  We often go through our busy days, day after day, and rarely stop and consider our future and where we want to be. Through a series of coaching sessions, you are able to do just that with the aid of your coach who is 100% dedicated to bringing out the best in you. I will listen, encourage, support and motivate you.

How are the sessions structured?

Your Life Coaching Journey usually starts with a free 20 minute Discovery Call to help you to decide if you want to work with me. If you choose to go ahead, this is followed by a series of 8 sessions, at intervals appropriate to you, but typically around 3-6 weeks apart. This depends on the speed at which you can take actions to achieve your goals.  Each session is around 75 minutes in length and can be conducted face to face or via Facetime/Skype. During the sessions, I will calmly guide you through a variety of exercises, helping you to articulate where you are now, where you’d like to be in 6-12 months’ time, and helping you to set an inspiring goal. Together we will create a plan to help you to move forward, taking challenging but manageable steps, and I will support and encourage you to achieve your actions and reach your goal.

How can I get the best out of my coaching sessions?

Coaching works best if you are motivated to bring about changes in your life.  You need to be ready to make changes and have a positive attitude towards the achievement of your goal. It is up to you to bring about the changes you desire and be committed to achieving your actions. You need to be ready to invest in yourself and have the time and commitment to complete the actions you will set yourself.  Although you will gain valuable insights during your sessions, it is common for the transformation to happen in between sessions. This is the time for you to be curious about what is going on in your life and what is preventing you from getting to where you want to be.

Where does the coaching take place?

We all have busy schedules so it’s important that your coaching sessions are conducted in a convenient way for you. Coaching sessions can take place face to face in the Oxfordshire area or via FaceTime/Skype or a combination of both. We need to be somewhere quiet, without distractions, where you can think clearly.  If we’re meeting face to face we can meet half way in a café or restaurant.

What sort of change can I expect to achieve from my series of sessions?

Each client I work with experiences change. Every client is different and each has with a set of unique circumstances and aspirations. Some Mums have gained a new level confidence in themselves and found an inner strength to reach for what they thought was unattainable. Some have identified a new career path. Others have gained a new perspective on their lives to enable them to function well in challenging situations such as long-term illness. Clients have begun to understand the impact of having a vision to inspire and motivate them, lifting their heads above day to day living and empowering them to lead an enriching life.

What are group coaching sessions?

When did you last get a really good listening to, on your own terms that helped you work through your own stuff?  Group coaching is an accessible way to meet with like-minded women in order to encourage, support and challenge one another.  Being part of a Mum Boardroom group helps you to move forward with clarity, self-belief and confidence.   A block of three, 2 hour sessions is available for a small group of up to 6 mums, meeting once a month.  We meet face to face in Oxfordshire. Please click here to complete the enquiry form and receive more information. If you live outside Oxfordshire and are still interested, let me know and we can discuss setting up a virtual coaching group.

I started my journey with Jackie struggling with some quite embedded self-confidence and self-belief issues – I was also working in a hectic job with some complex relationships to navigate, whilst trying to look after a family and their needs. The whole world changed quite dramatically midway through our journey (pandemic), and, at a time where things could have spiralled further out of control, Jackie helped me to prioritise what is important, to reflect on and learn from past experiences, and to take energy and confidence from the positives. Her calm and composed nature enabled some good, rational discussions, and she guided me towards reaching my own conclusions about how to address things, in a way that is personalised for me.
