You have two very different regions of your brain

The Survive Region of your brain – your inner Saboteurs

They exist in the brainstem, limbic system and parts of the left brain. They produce much of your stress, anxiety, self-doubt, anger, shame, guilt, frustration and mind chatter. These negative emotions are only helpful for a second as they alert you to dangers or issues. However, staying in these emotions hurts your ability to see clearly and choose the most helpful response.

The Thrive Region of your brain – your inner Sage

Your Sage lives in an entirely different region of your brain, the middle pre-frontal cortex, “empathy circuitry” and parts of the right brain. It generates positive emotions while handling life’s challenges. These include empathy, curiosity, compassion, gratitude, joy of creativity and calm, clear-headed, laser focused action. This region is wired for creativity and big picture awareness of what is important and the best course of action. Activating this region results in release of endorphins which counter the negative impact of stress induced cortisol.

The strength of your Positive Mental Fitness Muscles is called your Positive Intelligence Quotient (PQ) There are three core muscles at the root of mental fitness:

The Saboteur interceptor muscle in your brain

This muscle helps you become aware of your top Saboteurs and become skilled at discrediting and intercepting them before they generate unhelpful thoughts, emotions and internal voices that stop you from reaching your potential.

The Sage muscle in your brain

This muscle handles challenges with a clear and calm mind. It has access to your 5 primary powers: Empathise, Explore, Innovate, Navigate and Activate. For peak performance, you learn how and when to use each power skilfully.

The Self-command muscle in your brain

This muscle is able to self-regulate your thoughts and feelings. Innovated 10-second exercises called PQ reps are used to build up this crucial muscle in the brain, just like doing reps in a gym to build you biceps.

Without positive mental fitness, these muscles are weak and they frequently keep you trapped in negative emotion. Staying in negative emotion hurts your ability to see clearly and respond with empathy, curiosity and creativity for sharp laser focused action.

You are not in command of your mind. You are not choosing what it’s thinking (that’s why you’re awake at 3am worrying!)

You may go to the gym and work with a personal trainer to build physical fitness muscles. I can help you build your mental fitness muscles by working with you as your Personal Positive Mental Fitness Coach. By strengthening your mental muscles you will learn to respond, not react. You will be able to model stable emotional behaviours to your family and colleagues. You will demonstrate resilience and sharp laser focused action in a crisis. You will be able to make clear decisions amidst the chaos of every day life. The strength of your Positive Mental Fitness Muscles is called your Positive Intelligence Quotient (PQ)

Using the PQ approach with Jackie has been transformational for me. I recognise my Saboteurs more easily, notice my triggers and can tap in to my Sage to change the way I manage situations for a positive result. I have used the techniques I have learnt at work and with my family. Even my husband has been practising it! I would highly recommend working with Jackie with this method.
