I met Carmel via Linked In and asked her to write a guest blog to…
Making a big decision and unblocking the pathway to better family life, one Mum’s story

I asked Claire Winlow, founder of Red Kite Days, the go-to website for local family friendly activities, about her experience with Future Path Life Coaching:
“When I first got in touch with Future Path Life Coaching I was in a massive state of flux. I was on maternity leave after my third child and was at a crossroads – should I return to work or quit my secure, well-paid job. Despite talking to friends and family, I was properly stuck in a whirlwind of decisions.
I had no idea what a life coach did and although I was connected with Jackie on Facebook, I didn’t really know about her work. Then she advertised a ‘Sort It’ session – it popped up at exactly the right moment for me. As a one-off session at a reasonable cost, I decided to go for it as I needed sorting out!
I really didn’t know how powerful and useful the session would turn out to be. Jackie wasn’t forceful or wishy-washy but helped me come to a decision by actively listening and asking the best questions to identify what was stopping me. With a babysitter booked and some time to talk properly with my husband, I cleared the path of blockages and made the decision to leave my job – it was a lightbulb moment.
Following the ‘Sort It’ session, I started Red Kite Days but I needed some help with balancing work and family life. I’d swapped one type of busy life for another so decided to take six monthly 1-2-1 sessions with Future Path Life Coaching.
The value of that precious time to talk through my next steps was enormous, I had a lightbulb moment in every session! We started with the Wheel of Life that identified a lack of focus on my health and family time – I went on to run a 10km race, spend special individual time with each of my children, rearrange our family mealtimes and get my son to sleep through the night.
The course of sessions helped to keep me on track with the ‘how will I make this all work’ and not fall back into old habits. We identified what I could and couldn’t control and the manageable changes I’ve made have had a huge impact on the whole family. My favourite phrase of Jackie’s is ‘you can’t pour from an empty jug’ which helped me realise that looking after myself is not selfish, it’s important for my family and my work too.
If someone asks how I’ve got life running well, I tell them it’s through life coaching. Life coaching isn’t just about getting something off your chest, with Jackie you come away with a practical and achievable plan of where you want to be and how to get there.
When you hit a bump in the road, if other areas of your life are de-stressed, you can cope more easily with them. I explain that Jackie doesn’t tell you what to do but gently pulls out your own ideas and helps you remove the blockages to the big decisions.
When faced with another big change, I took a second set of six monthly 1-2-1 sessions with Future Path Life Coaching. I wouldn’t keep coming back if it didn’t make such a tangible difference in my life.”
As a busy mum of two, Jackie Meek at Future Path Life Coaching understands the chaos and stress that frazzled working Mums deal with daily. A qualified leadership and personal development coach, Jackie puts the focus back on you and inspires you to be the best version of yourself.
