Sometimes you do just need to STOP

One of my top Saboteurs is Hyper-Achiever and, like many mums, I find it difficult to STOP and to re-charge my batteries. Even when I had Covid recently, my body was telling me to stop but my brain was saying ‘You can’t stop. Just keep going!’ What a crazy lie that is!
Are you a pro at putting your feet up and stepping out of work/doing mode or do you tend to feel a tad guilty?
So many mums I speak to struggle with taking a break or prioritising doing something enjoyable and re-charging, just for them, even when they are ill! They feel guilty. Guilty for stopping when there’s so much that needs doing. Selfish for wanting time to themselves.
It maybe they believe the lie that they should be running at maximum productivity, all of the time. There’s a sense of something being wasted or lost if they’ve not made the absolute most of every minute.
But what if the key to a happy, fulfilled life is to know when to slow down, stop and how to re-charge? What if making the most of the moment sometimes means doing nothing?
To give yourself permission is a shift from Saboteur to Sage. To stop listening to your Saboteurs which say ‘keep going, keep going’. It’s a shift from being in perpetual forward motion, of constant achievement, to valuing life and energy giving stillness.
Take the free Saboteur Assessment here to discover the most common ways you self-sabotage. The assessment takes approximately 4 minutes to complete.
Start by asking yourself what’s the lie that’s keeping you trapped in the hamster wheel of doing more and more. How can you incorporate energy-giving space and stillness into your day? What needs to change?
